The Olmec civilization is often called the "Mother Culture" or "Mother Civilization" of Mesoamerica. Geography:

The Olmec heartland is the southern portion of Mexico's Gulf Coast Region between the Tuxtla Mountains and the Olemc archaelgical of La Venta, extending roughly 80 km (50 mi) inland from the Gulf of Mexico coastline at its deepest. It is today, as it was during the height of the Olmec civilization, a tropical lowland forest environment, crossed by meandering rivers.
Most researchers consider the Olmec heartland to be the home of the Olmec culture which became widespread over Mesoamerica from 1400 BCE until roughly 400 BCE. The area is also referred to as Olman or the Olmec Metropolitan Zone

Climate:
The olmec people lived in the jungle, rain forest, and swamps of Mexico. So there for it was very hot and humid this map shows the places where they usualy live. The climate of the Olmec land is very wet with heavy rainfall, the landscape is tropical forest. The area is also subject to annual flooding from the rivers in the area, which creates swamp and marshes along the outer fringes. The area supports a verity of plant and animal life, that could easly support a very small community in the area. This supports evidence that suggests early Olmec villages were non-agricultural.
